Prudential close to buy AIG’s Asia

British insurer Prudential PLC said Monday it was in advanced talks to buy the Asian operations of US insurer American International Group Inc. News reports say the deal could be worth around US$30 billion or more.

Sri Mulyani optimistic inflation under control

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati expressed her optimism on Tuesday that inflation in January would remain under control but she also called for a continuous watch on the rice price hike.

“The contribution of rice price to inflation is still quite big. Other than that I think it all remains stable,” she said. and she was also optimistic the annual inflation in January this year would still be below 3.0 percent. “Annually, it is probably still below 3.0 percent,” she said.

Former Century Bank Fund Found

With regard to the funds in Hong Kong the Attorney General’s Office had already named two suspects, namely Hisam Alfaruk and Rafat Ali Rifki respectively British and Pakistani nationals. Other Bank Century funds were found in Dressner Bank of Switzerland totaling US$220 million, he said.

RI ratings as economy strengthens

Fitch Ratings on Monday upgraded Indonesia’s long-term foreign and local currency ratings to BB+ from BB, one level below investment grade, citing the country’s resilience to the global financial crisis.

S&P’s rating is three levels below investment grade, while Moody’s is two levels below investment grade.

BCA : No ATM services block

Messages, which have been circulating among customers, claiming to have cited information from BCA employees have been circulating said the bank would blockade ATM transactions starting 12 a.m. Sunday to Jan. 25. They encourage depositors to withdraw money immediately if needed.

BCA : no internet hacking

The central bank said the issue affected 200 customers at six banks – BCA, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Mandiri, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Internasional Indonesia, and Bank Permata.

The recent Bank Central Asia (BCA) savings account losses occurred due to unintentionally duplicating ATM cards and did not involve internet hacking, BCA said.

Bailout reported to vice president on 25 November

Former chairwoman of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) Sri Mulyani said she reported to then Vice President Jusuf Kalla on the Bank Century bailout decision on November 25, 2008, not on November 22, 2008.

“I reported to the vice president (Jusuf Kalla) on November 25, 2008,” Sri Mulyani said in reply to a question raised by Andi Rahmat during a House inquiry session here on Wednesday.

Indocement pays rp3 billion tax

Cement company PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa in Tarjun, South Kalimantan, finally settled its tax arrears of about Rp3 billion on quarrying-C mining business, after the local government refused the company`s tax deduction request.

Head of the regional Revenue, Finance and Asset Management of Kotabaru district, H Achmad Chairansyah said here Wednesday that his office has received the tax arrears payment from PT. Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa or ITP cement factory.
