Sabang int`l seaport to operate in 2012

Aceh province`s Sabang international seaport which is now under construction is scheduled to commence operations in 2012, the port`s administrator said.

“The project is to support the economic growth of the Sabang Free Port and Trade Area,” Sabang Port Administrator Teuku Saiful Ahmad said here on Friday.

RI to stop importing cows weighing over 350 Kg

Agriculture Minister Suswono said that Indonesia would import cows that weighed not more than 350 kg each so that they could be raised in the country first before being slaughtered.

“So far, Indonesia has been importing cows weighing more than 350 kg. Many of the imported cows even weighed between 400 kg and 500 kg so that they are slaughtered as soon as they arrive,” the minister said here on Thursday.

Govt to review fertilizer prices in April 2010

Visiting Indonesian Agriculture Minister Suswono said here on Friday the government would review domestic fertilizer prices in April next year.

“Fertilizer prices in the country will be reviewed in April 2010 because the amount of state budget funds to subsidize them has decreased,” the minister said.

Jakarta expects to earn Rp1.6 trillion from tourism

The Jakarta administration is upbeat over its target to earn Rp1.6 trillion from tourism through its “Jakarta Tourism Expo 2009″ in a number of regions, including Surabaya, a tourism official said.

“The target is higher than that of last year which was Rp1.5 trillion,” head of the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Service Arief Budhiman said during the launch of “Jakarta Tourism Expo 2009″ at the Paragon Hotel here on Thursday.

Rupiah Weakens to Rp 9.600 against USD

The rupiah’s value toward the USD at the spot market, Friday morning, weakens by 18 points, approaching Rp. 9,600 / 1 USD due to the continuous profit-taking after the sharp strengthening.

The trade value of rupiah against the USD has lowered to Rp. 9,578-Rp.9,595 per USD compared to the closing the day before at Rp. 9,560-Rp. 9,575.

DPR Rejects BI’s Pay Raise Proposal

The proposal for raise on salary, benefits, and other earnings by Bank Indonesia (BI) wasn’t entirely approved by the People’s Consultative Council (DPR). The DPR’s Commission XI, for the field of finance and banking, would only allow raise for managerial level and below.

The approved raise will be calculated based on inflation. “We didn’t approve it because of the lasting economic crisis. BI should have a sense of crisis,” said Achsanul Qosasi, deputy chairman of DPR’s Commission XI.

Investment may reach Rp2,000 trillion: BKPM

Investment in the country may reach Rp2,000 trillion so that the average economic growth target of 7 percent in the coming five years is achievable, the investment chief said.

“It is not easy to attract an investment of Rp2,000 trillion but it is neither impossible. We will work hard to attract foreign and domestic investors,” Head of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan said.

Govt needs Rp1.6 trillion more to boost fish production

The government is proposing an additional budget of Rp1.6 trillion to boost fish breeding in 2010 and increase its production by 353 percent in 2014, a cabinet minister said.

“The target to boost fish production by 353 percent sounds ambitious but we will boost the production of fish ponds,” Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DKP) Minister Fadel Muhammad said here on Monday.
